Everyone in Social Media or thinking of best practices for how to establish their organizations “online” needs to watch this episode of King of the Hill:

Hank’s company decides to put up a MySpace page and all hell breaks loose from there. Great episode. I also firmly believe that when The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Futurama, and Family Guy make social commentary like this, especially as the main topic of an entire episode, it’s for a very good reason. Companies need to take note and extra care as Social Media websites hit corporate America – follow best practices for standard professionalism. Don’t say anything on your web page that you wouldn’t say to some face-to-face. And, the most important thing to remember, which this episode highlights well – there is absolutely no substitute for a customer and revenue opportunity that is right in front of you.
